JO ANN TORREZ
Areas of Practice:
To me, community is everything. A native of Austin, I attended Crockett High School and earned my degree from UT Austin as a first-generation college graduate. When law school became a possibility for me, I leapt at the chance. I never knew any attorneys growing up, but I did know that attending law school represented financial freedom and the ultimate privilege: giving back to my Texas community by helping individuals and families through law.
Helping Austin Thrive
As an Austin native, I’ve been proud to serve clients in this fantastic city and its surrounding areas for more than two decades. Giving back to my community is important to me, through both my law practice and my volunteer work. Whether it’s by offering turkey dinners to local families, providing resources to the Boys and Girls Clubs, donating to up-and-coming musicians, or attending shows at the Paramount Theatre, my husband and I strongly support all things Austin.
Like many in Austin, I’m also aware of the impact human beings have made on our climate and our earth. That’s why I’m involved with The Climate Reality Project. This non-profit’s goal is to raise awareness and inspire action to solve the global climate crisis. In the words of Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” I believe that real change comes from the ground up, and I’ve pledged to help make a difference for Austin—and the earth—one step at a time.
“I’m here to listen to your story, understand your point of view, and advocate for your future.”
My Approach to Law
Since 2001, I’ve helped Texans find a path forward after a car wreck or divorce threatens to upend their future. My approach to the practice of law is the same one I take when volunteering in Austin: I stay focused on solutions, while remaining compassionate and collaborative.
Focused on Solutions
Whether you’re suffering through the aftermath of a motorcycle wreck or a contentious divorce, it can be easy to lose sight of your goals. When we work together, I make finding solutions a priority. Many individuals spend time and energy creating more distance and more conflict in their cases—and in their lives. I’m here to help you remain focused on the task at hand and direct your energy to the things that really matter.
Collaborative & Compassionate Representation
After an accident on the road or a family law dispute, you deserve an attorney who will work with you, not just for you. When you set up a consultation with J. Torrez Law, P.C., you’ll feel empowered from the beginning to make informed decisions and important choices. Your input is valued at every stage of the legal process, and your perspective is key. I make sure to really listen to your story and understand your point of view because I truly believe that everyone deserves a chance at a brighter future.
When you’re ready to tell me your story, I’m ready to listen. Set up a consultation with me in Austin to get started. It’s my privilege to serve individuals and families in Williamson County, Hays County, Bastrop County, Caldwell County, and the rest of Texas.
